Which plan do I need?

The easiest way to determine the plan required to backup your data is to use Windows Explorer to find the sizes of the relevant files and folders. To check the size of a file or folder hold your pointer over it, right click on your mouse and select properties. Also remember that you can easily increase your allocated space at any time, so don’t feel pressured into buying more space than you need.

How secure is my data?

Your files are protected with a minimum of 128 bit AES encryption and a secret password that you choose before they leave your PC. This extremely secure military-grade encryption algorithm is the international standard for high-level data security applications, has been widely peer-reviewed and is regarded as one of the strongest encryption algorithms publicly available. Your files are stored offsite in this encrypted state at our multi site secure datacentres.

Can BackItUpOnline access my files?

Absolutely not! Every BackItUpOnline online backup user gets an individual account and password. This means that each user also gets a unique encryption key. This encryption key ensures that while your data is securely stored at our datacentre, only you have access to your data. In fact, even our staff do not have the ability to decrypt your data - this is important to remember, because if you lose your encryption password, nobody, not even BackItUpOnline can retrieve your data!

End-to-End Verification?

Each file that is backed up to the remote backup servers is integrity checked for CRC errors. Files are verified each time they are written to disk. If any file fails verification, it is retransmitted from your computer or server. This ensures that the data stored on our servers is the same data that was stored on your computer or server.

Where is my Data Stored?

Our servers are running 64-bit hardened operating systems and are installed in purpose built datacentres with 24 x 7 manned security, authorised access to enter the datacentre, locked server cabinets with power, fire and flood protection as key features to this high integrity building (see below for more datacentre specifications). All data is mirrored between two physical datacentres.

  • UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) with DC back-up and generators to supply power in the event of utility power failure.
